We have tried to make these safety web pages as accurate and useful as possible; however

Please treat this site as a source of general information about safety and the potential hazards of chemicals, not as a definitive statement of the hazards associated with any particular chemical or a reliable interpretation of safety law. If you buy a chemical to use in the laboratory, ask the manufacturer for a complete MSDS sheet.

Acids & Bases - Strengths of Solutions /溶液酸碱强度

Buffers /缓冲液

Carcinogens/致癌物质

A list of known and suspected carcinogens.

CAS Numbers - Selected Chemicals /依化学品编号查询

Safety Data for Common Chemicals /常见化学品安全数据

This section provides links to data in student-friendly format from the HSci project The data provided cover a number of chemicals commonly found in school science labs, some listed by their non-systematic (but frequently-used) names. [A much more extensive list of links to MSDS safety information follows here.]

Consumer and Industrial Products /工业消费品

Foreign-language databases /中文化学危险品资料

Links to chemical safety data in languages other than English.

Gases: Safety Information on Industrial and Scientific Gases /气体安全信息

Data are available on a wide range of gases from the BOC group, Matheson and Scott Gas. Tips on the safe handling of compressed gases.

Gas Cylinder Colour Codes /气瓶颜色编码

Glossary /名词

A glossary of terms related to chemical safety.

Gloves, Chemically-resistant /防护手套等之材料

A list of chemically resistant glove material suitable for working with a variety of inorganic and organic chemicals. Information is organized by glove material and by chemical.

Hazard codes (UN)  /危险编码

A list of UN hazard codes is given in the glossary.

Common Highly Toxic Chemicals /剧毒物品

Incompatible Chemicals /不兼容化学品(库存,运输特别注意)

A list of materials which are incompatible with widely-used chemicals.

Interpreting MSDS Sheets

Laser Classification /激光安全

An outline of the scheme used to classify lasers by their potential to cause harm.

Maximum Exposure Limits

MELs have, in the UK, now been replaced by Workplace Exposure Limits.

MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) Information 材料安全资料

Information on chemicals is ordered alphabetically in the directories below (contents approximately 28,873 names, though the number of distinct substances is smaller because of the inclusion of many synonyms). The web pages are not reproductions of 16-point data sheets, but contain key safety information for each chemical. If you intend to use the chemical, we suggest that you obtain MSDS data from your supplier to supplement the data given here, before starting work.

First check the appropriate directory below. If you can't find the chemical you want, try clicking here.

Peroxides/过氧化物

A list of chemicals which may form peroxides during storage.

Risk and Safety Phrases

Most MSDS sheets now contain codes such as R23 or R45 which correspond to certain "risk phrases", and S17 or S24, which correspond to certain "safety phrases". Meanings of these risk phrases as used in the EU are given here, and meanings of the safety phrases are given here.

Shock-sensitive Materials/震荡撞击敏感材料

A list of materials which, either on their own or in combination with reducing agents, may be shock or friction-sensitive.
